There are moments when one wants to break through an endless chain of boring decisions. Moments when logic and rational choice feel like a wrong one. At such moments you catch yourself wishing to find a new promising direction in work, to redecorate your loved space or to add some details to an already carefully chosen wardrobe.
Tercia is a typeface for such occasions. Made made with reference to Jugendstil, it will give the project originality without leading it into excessive illustrativeness. As another meta interpretation, Tercia defiantly harmoniously unites archetypes that are far from close: Art Nouveau fonts, geometric sans-serifs and humanistic serif typefaces. The monumental rigour of its forms, especially vividly manifested in uppercase, is set off by the eccentric rhythm of lowercase and moderate decorative details.
Tercia does not cause a desire to dust it off — on the contrary, it gives a feeling of playful rebellion. You can search and find references to historical prototypes in it, wonder at the proportions and impudence of particular signs. But it’s better to just start working with the typeface. The process will not be fast, but with a certain amount of diligence, the result may exceed the wildest expectations. After all, reminding of the past, the font talks about the modern times and it does it with those who have that very desire for renewal lit up inside.
